Throughout the school year, students are bombarded with tests. Not only do they take classroom tests given by their teachers to measure their progress in each course, but they take several state mandated standardized tests each year. Seventh grade students will take the Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing on February 24th this year. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students will take the Stanford Achievement Test each day during the weeks of April 4th and April 11th..
Your child's test results on state tests will be sent to the school during the summer and may be picked up during registration in August. Those not picked up will be sent home with the first report card next school year. For explanation and interpretation of your child's results, you are encouraged to contact school counselors, Mr. McDonald and Dr. Wheeler.
Help your child perform up to his/her potential on these and all test by remembering the following:
1. Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep during testing.
2. Get up early enough to ensure a calm morning. Rushing, bickering, and chaos at home is often reflected in a child's school performance.
3. Unless he/she is really sick, make sure your child is at school and on time during each day of testing.
4. Make sure your child eats a good breakfast each morning during testing. Breakfast is available at school for $1.00 every morning from 7:30 until 8:10.
5. Aviod making dentist or other appointments that require school check-out during testing. Tests are administered on varrying schedules and some state tests last all day long.
6. Encourage your child to do his/her very best. Although state standardized tests are not used to determine whether or not a student passes to the next grade level, results are used by teachers to determine each student's strengths and weaknesses, and used in planning for more individualized instruction.
